I have been going to King Of The Hammers (KOH) each for work since 2012, but for 2020 I was a “civilian” with no duties, no time constraints and free to roam! This year I would be taking the ADV80 (as always) and hauling out my Yamaha TW200. While I had already been hauling the TDUB with the ADV80, I wanted to keep the 80-Series Land Cruisers spare tire mounted onto the Slee Offroad Rear Bumper and Jerry Can Rack. Previously these items were removed in order to carry my moto out anywhere.
But because we would be wheeling the 4X4 rigs as well as riding the TDUB, I needed to make some modifications to the Discount Ramps Dual Moto Hitch Carrier. Initially I bought this rack to haul the two daughters motorcycles with. Now with only hauling one moto, I would sacrifice one rack and slide the hitch mounted rack in a bit more and drill the through-bolt right where I want it. Too, I had to switch the orientation of which I hauled the moto.
Previously I loaded the moto from the right side as that just seemed natural. With the spare tire mounted on the carrier, the tire itself sits on the right side of the vehicle and I wanted the handlebars of the TDUB to sit up against the tire, so I would be loading the TW200 from the left or driver side of the vehicle. Just have to be a little extra careful!
With all that sorted, I was off to KOH2020 to meet up with longtime friend John “XJShizzle” Schultz as he has a big RV for us to camp in, FREE OF DUST! BUT, I went a day early to see King Of The Motos, so one tent-night. No big deal, just camp a little further away from Hammertown – I want to see King Of the Motos as they had been away from a couple of years. Heck, I may have just slept inside the ADV80 as it is setup to sleep in the back!
Morning of the event, I get up early and go scope out the race course prior to the start of the Motos. The following day, XJShizzle and I did some 4×4 wheeling across from Hammertown to escape the dust and with way less people! We have our “secret spots” to explore based on a previous run and wanted to explore further out.
The starting line of King Of The Motos 2020.
